How SOLAFLO actually works.
The SOLAFLO Intelligent Zero Emissions Pump (IZEP) is a solar-powered, low-voltage DC pool circulation system. It replaces the conventional grid-connected AC pump with a purpose-built motor, controller and hydraulic set that runs directly from one or two photovoltaic panels. The result is everyday filtration with no grid power, no electrician and no running cost while the sun is shining.
At its core, the system is a matched set: a dedicated PV panel feeds an intelligent controller, the controller drives a low-voltage DC pump, and the pump moves water through a patented hydraulic circuit. Every part is sized to work together, so the system does not need mains power, batteries or an inverter to keep a residential pool clean.
True off-grid solar power
A single dedicated PV panel is enough for the standard IZEP setup. In larger or high-flow applications the controller can manage up to two panels. Because the pump runs on the DC current the panels produce, there is no grid inverter, no 240-volt connection and no power drawn from the house. When the sun is out, the system runs for free. When the sun sets, it simply stops until the next day, leaving a clean, safe pool behind it.
Intelligent, sensor-less control
The Ultimate Controller matches pump speed to the sunlight available in real time. It starts slowly in weak morning light, ramps up through the middle of the day, then eases off as the sun drops. This is done without external flow sensors, pressure sensors or float switches. The controller uses electrical signature analysis to detect blocked suction, closed valves, run-dry and burst pipe conditions, then shuts the pump down safely.
Turbine impeller and laminar flow
Conventional pool pumps use a radial impeller that throws water outward in a turbulent path. The IZEP uses a Francis turbine-style impeller combined with a patented laminar flow diffuser. Water moves in a smoother, more directed path, so the system delivers the same or greater flow rate with two to four times less power than a standard AC pump. Less turbulence also means less noise, less wear and lower head loss through the filtration circuit.
Safe low-voltage DC
The entire IZEP system operates below 30 volts DC. That removes the need for 240-volt mains cable, trenching to the equipment pad, or a licensed electrician for the pump installation. The low-voltage pump is rated for in-water, Zone 0 installation, which is why it can live inside the skimmer in the SKUMP configuration without a separate plant room.
Integrated skimmer housing
For new pool builds, the pump and twin cartridge filters are built into a single in-ground skimmer housing beneath three flush deck hatches. This Pump in Skimmer (SKUMP) layout removes the plant room entirely, shortens suction and return lines, and leaves the pool deck clean. The same controller can also manage lighting, sterilisation and robotic cleaning through one plug-and-play unit.
International patent protection
Three International PCT patent families cover the pump design, the intelligent sensor-less control and fault detection, and the integrated skimmer system. National phase entries cover Australia, the USA, New Zealand, Europe and China, backed by registered designs and trade marks.
